Cornel tree health benefits (Cornus mas - Cornaceae fam.)

Chemical composition of Cornel tree

The fruits contain sugars 9%, organic acids, tannoid substances, mineral substances diverse, vitamins C, the bark contains tannoids.

Properties of Cornel tree

All the parts of the plant have astringent properties, because they contain tannin. Because of that they are also effective against diarrhea; they are healing, disinfectant. The leaves can be used with outmost success in treating roundworms.

Preparation

- place 2 teaspoons of fruits in 250 ml water and boil for 15 minutes. You can consume up to 3 cups a day.
- place 1 teaspoon of ground leaves in 250 ml boiling water. Cover for 15 minutes. Filter. Drink 2-3 cups of tea in diarrhea or other conditions.
- place 4 tablespoons of bark in 1 l water. Boil for 30 minutes. Filter. It can be used externally, being very effective against hemorrhoids.

Tincture (it can be prepared from fresh fruits as well): crush 50 g fresh/dry fruits, place in 250 ml alimentary alcohol 70C and keep for 15 days at room temperature, shaking often. Filter and then place in small recipients. You can consume up to 15-20 drops 3 times a day, diluted in water. You can consume for longer periods of time.

Leaves or bark tincture - place 50 g ground plant in 250 ml alimentary alcohol 70C. Keep for 15 days as well and then filter. You can consume up to 10-15 drops 3 times a day, diluted in water.

It can be used for the following medical conditions: stomach aches, stomach cramps, diarrhea, eczema, enteritis, skin infections, gout, icterus or other liver disease, myopia, intestinal parasites, ulcero-hemorrhagic recto colitis, veal skin.
