Benefits of Rattle plant



   Known from ancient times, rattle has gained a distinct place among other medicinal herbs because of its therapeutic powers and its various usages.

Description of Rattle plant

   Rattle is a herbaceous perennial plant with a straight woody stalk, with 4 longitudinal edges, that can reach up to 100cm tall. The leaves have an oval shape and because of the contained secretive glands they appear to have white dots if they are examined trough transparency. The flowers are yellow and they are grouped in inflorescences.

   They have five petals black dotted. It blooms from June to September, the period being also recommended for picking it up in the morning, after the mist has vanished.

Properties and benefits of Rattle plant

   Rattle contains a brown-red substance called hypericine which can be easily spotted when the tincture is prepared. Apart from this substance rattle also contains pseudo-hypericine, volatile oil and tannin. Because of these substances, rattle has an antiseptic, astringent and cicatrizing action. The flavonoides are responsible for the vasodilatator and hypotensive action.

   A group of scientists from the Benjamin Franklin University in Berlin brought evidence that rattle can replace the drugs recommended for depressive states.

Treatments

   The lazy bile, chronic entero-colitis, hyperacid gastritis, gastric ulcer, hepatitis, chronic hepatitis and cholecystitis can be successfully treated with rattle infusion. At the same time, persons who retain water in tissues should consume one spoon of rattle tea after each meal.

   The rattle tincture is used to treat arterial hypertension, neurovegetative dystonia, menopause, irascible states and psychomotor nervousness. A few drops can be consumed after each primary meal. The exact dose is established depending on age and illness.

rattle    The gingivitis and tooth abscesses can be treated with rattle gargles. During the day several gargles can be made and in the evening it is suggested to have another one.

   The trigeminal neuralgia can be treated with rattle oil that must be applied on the damaged areas.

   The speaking disorders, restless sleep, hysterical crises and somnambulism can be treated with rattle, as well as depressive states and urinary incontinence.

   The rattle oil shouldn't be absent from any house, its curative powers being preserved for 2 years. It can be used to treat open wounds, hemathomes, inflammations of the ganglions, backaches, lumbago and rheumatic and sciatic pains.

   A homemade cure for burns is represented by rattle flowers kept in linseed oil. The oil can also be used for sunburns.

   Babies with colics relax if their belly is massaged with rattle oil.

   In cosmetics the bloomed herb is used especially for its tonic action on dried and old skin tissues.

Mixtures

Rattle infusion

   The infusion is prepared by adding one spoon of mashed herb in a cup of boiled water (200ml) that must be covered for 15 - 20 minutes and then filtered.

Rattle tincture

   The tincture is prepared out of 40g of rattle, 30g of balm, 15g of odolean and 15g of lavender. All of these herbs must be macerated for 5 - 7 days in 700ml of 60o alcohol and then filtered. The tincture must be kept in dark-colored glasses in cool places.

Rattle oil macerate

   The oil macerate is prepared from 20g of mashed rattle with 20ml of 70% alcohol. After 12 hours, 200ml of sunflower must be added. It then must be steam-heated for 3 hours and left to macerate for 2 or 3 days. After it is filtered it must be kept in dark-colored glasses.

   The dabs are made with infusion prepared form 30g of herb boiled in 1 liter of water. The vessel must be covered for 20 minutes after which the infusion must be filtered and applied on dabs.

Rattle gargles

   The gargles must be made with an infusion from two spoons of dried herb boiled in one cup of water.

Caution

   It is recommended to avoid the exposal to sun of any rattle mixture, because photo-sensible reactions might occur. The consumption of rattle can induce headaches and stomachaches. Nevertheless, the secondary effects of the rattle consumption aren't as powerful as the side effects of the drugs recommended for treating depressive states.
