Get rid of cystitis through natural treatments!

Urinary infections are frequent, especially in women, being caused by many factors from sexual activity and personal hygiene to lifestyle, nutrition and clothes. Cystitis are some of the most frequent infections of the urinary apparatus.

Approximately 50% of all women have suffered, at least once in their lifetime, of an urinary infection. Both the anatomy of the urinary apparatus and the fact that the anal orifice is closer to the urethra than in men (favoring the moving of intestinal bacteria to the level of the urethral orifice); all these describe a higher degree of infections in women.

Children can also suffer from urinary infections and for them, one must investigate if there isn't any congenital reason for the urinary infections to be treated before these infections turn chronic.

Young men rarely suffer from urinary infections, but those over 50 years old suffer more often especially due to the conditions of the prostate.

Most often, the urinary infections are low, situated at the urethra level (urethritis) or sometimes climb up to the bladder (cystitis).

What is cystitis?

It is an inflammation of the urinary bladder, being the most frequent way of urinary infection. This condition is manifested almost entirely in women due to the small length of the urethra, thus pathogen agents have a very short way to go from entering the urethra to the urinary bladder. Most often, cystitis is determined by bacteria coming from the anal area, especially E. Coli.

What are the most frequent causes of cystitis?

It can occur due to sexual intercourse, for example, microorganisms of a vaginal source or for women sexually not active, intestinal bacteria can enter the urethra and from there they can reach the bladder (especially when it comes to the improper toilet hygiene).

Risk factors

In women

- A faulty hygiene or an incorrectly applied one. Women must frequently clean their intimate areas in order to prevent intestinal bacteria to develop. Also, during sexual intercourse, the urethra can be infected with bacteria from the vagina and post-sexual hygiene is mandatory (not necessarily vaginal washes, they shouldn't be performed more than once a week). Also, while on the toilet, clean these areas from the front part to the back in order to prevent intestinal bacteria from the anal area to reach the urethral area.
- Using diaphragms as a contraceptive method favors the apparition of urinary infections as a result of the compression of the urethra; thus, an obstacle that prevents the urine from being properly eliminated appears and the urethra can be over infected (so can the bladder).
- The menopause, through its deficit of female hormones that maintained the health and the pH of the vaginal mucous favors the development of bacteria that can cause urinary infections.
- The anatomical structure of the female urinary apparatus makes it prone to such infections.

In men

- The prolonged usage of a urinary catheter or the presence of an obstacle along the urethra (the increase in volume of the prostate that compresses the urethra).

Which are the symptoms of cystitis?

Common symptoms for urinary infections:

- Urinating often
- Pain and burning sensation while urinating
- The acute need to urinate and the inability to "hold it", with the emission of small amounts of urine
- Turbid, concentrated urine, with a pungent smell
- Sometimes, the presence of blood in your urine (haematuria)

Symptoms specific to cystitis

- Frequent and painful urinations
- A sensation of pressure at the inferior abdomen level
- A pungent smell of the urine

How can cystitis suffer complications?

As soon as you notice signs and symptoms of an urinary infection you need to go to a doctor. Or else, the bacteria will multiply and lead to serious infections that invade the kidneys, affecting their functioning, producing kidney stones and even blood poisoning in extreme cases. An untreated urinary infection can become chronic in time, due to the destruction of kidney tissue and its replacement with non-functional tissue and it can lead to kidney failure, a serious condition with repercussions in the entire organism.

How can we diagnose?

The cyto-bacteriological analysis of the urine will be performed. For this, you will have to prepare a sample of urine and unfortunately there a only a few doctors that inform the patient completely regarding the proper way to prepare this sample of urine; thus, one can find it in bacteria in enormous amounts and a fake positive diagnosis for urinary infection can be put.

How to obtain the urine sample

First of all you must buy a sterile recipient from a pharmacy or from the lab. It to be opened only when collecting the urine sample. Because in the morning urine has the highest concentration, the collecting will be done in this time of day. Immediately after waking up, go and take a shower and perform a rigorous hygiene of your pelvic area and then use a clean towel. After that, urinate and after a couple of seconds, without stopping, collect urine in the recipient. Close it and take it to the lab as quickly as possible (bacteria can decompose and the result can be wrongfully negative) or, if you cannot make in time, store the recipient for a few hours in your refrigerator (not freezer).

The urine will be analyzed under a microscope and if a germ concentration higher than 100 000/ ml will be found, the diagnosis of urinary infection will be set. After this, those bacteria will be tested for their reaction to antibiotics to see to which ones they are sensitive (antibiogram).

How do we treat urinary infections?

Drink 2 l of fluids a day, among which the amounts of medicinal teas we suggest below. Infusions with medicinal teas:

- An infusion of blackcurrant, two teaspoons of dried leaves for a cup of water. Drink 3 cups a day, half an hour before every meal.
- An infusion from pine tree buds with a tablespoon of plant for a cup of water. Drink 2-3 cups a day.

Medicinal plant mixture:

- An infusion from the following mixture of plants, in equal parts: cherry stalks, corn silk, yarrow. Place a tablespoon of plant mixture for a cup of water. Drink 2-3 cups a day.
- An infusion from horsetail, nettle, bistort and tutsan, 3 tablespoons from each one for a 1 l of water. Drink 2-3 cups a day.
- A decoct from one-sided wintergreen with a tablespoon and a half of plant for a cup of water. Boil for 5-10 minute. Drink 2 cups a day adding a small amount of sodium bicarbonate to every cup.

Homeopathic treatment:

Throughout the treatment avoid orange juices, coffee, cakes, pork and beef (chicken and fish are the only ones recommended), spicy or hot foods. Don't forget that all the metabolic products are eliminated through urine, the excreting apparatus of humans being the urinary, and not the digestive one.

If the symptoms don't disappear in 3 days after starting the treatment, urgently visit a specialist doctor!

How to prevent urinary infections?

Especially through the consumption of enough fluids (6-8 glasses a day) and through urinating when you feel the need, without "holding it in".

Preventing urinary infections in women:

- First of all the daily hygiene, after every sexual intercourse (without referring to vaginal washes, which shouldn't be performed without prior medical recommendation) and, after urinating, the wiping movement should be performed from the front to the back.
- Urinate shortly after sexual intercourse
- Avoid using the diaphragm as a contraceptive method
- Use intimate hygiene products recommended by the gynecologist
- Use cotton underwear and relatively loose.

Preventing urinary infections in men:

The prevention of this infection in men can be done through the consumption of an adequate amount of fluids in order to maintain the urinary stream and by using a condom in sexual intercourse with a new partner whose intimate health condition is not known (for stable partners, the bacterial floras in the pubic areas end up adapting one to the other).
