Indigestion - homeopathic treatmentAfter a long lent, we feast with greed from the traditional cuisine. But not without unfortunate consequences...If we are not moderate, indigestion can affect each and every one of us. The indigestion appears through the disturbance of digestive processes at the level of the upper digestive system (esophagus, stomach, duodenum - the first part of the small intestine). The main symptom is a deaf pain, many times a burning sensation, in the upper side of the abdomen, between the ribs and the bellybutton, accompanied by a bloating sensation, nausea (Even vomiting), regurgitations, feeling of being full fairly quickly after starting to eat. Most of the times, indigestion is a sudden phenomenon, with a long period of duration. There are people that suffer from a chronic form. The latter must undergo a careful medical examination followed by lab tests in order to exclude serious conditions of the upper digestive system, that can have similar symptoms. Fats, coffee or tobacco - forbidden "pleasures"Among the food products hard to digest we can count: fats, onion, cucumber, beans, tomatoes, sweets. Alcohol, coffee and smoking acts through different mechanisms but with the same result: indigestion. Caffeine or black tea drunk while eating hurry the elimination of gastric acid before it could act completely. The alcohol has an irritating effect on the digestive mucous, attacking the protective layer at its surface.Fizzy drinks have bubbles and determine a distention of the stomach, enough dilated from a rich meal. The abdomen get painful and the nausea sensation appears. A glass of ice cold water will not help you either: the low temperature reduces the acid secretion and the water dilutes the digestive system, slowing down digestion. Fats are infamous for being "heavy": the stomach feels them and slows down its emptying in order to allow intestinal digestive acids to digest them. Stress... eternally the one to blame. If you are stressed, your organism secrets large amounts of hormones that changes the way in which it functions. Thus, blood is redirected from unimportant area (the digestive tube is one of them) towards vital organs (heart, brain, liver) and muscles, preparing your organism for fighting or running away. Thus, complex functions, but of little importance in critical moments (digestion, subtle immune reactions) are dramatically reduced. If you eat in stressful condition, digestion will be performed with faults: foods stay in the stomach and small intestine, the transit being slowed down. Thus, the signals of indigestion appear: the bloating sensation, burns, pain, etc. Excessive eating is, in general, the most frequent cause of indigestion. It is recommended not to eat sweets before the main meals and a walk in the cold winter air would be preferable. Indigestion - diagnosis of exclusionThere is no specific test for indigestion, being an diagnosis of exclusion - if nothing wrong could be found (all the tests are normal) and indigestion keeps on returning, doctors label it as a non-ulcer dyspepsia and treat it according to its symptoms. It is exactly because it can hide more serious conditions, a series of test are recommended, in order to check if everything is in order: the baryta test, upper digestive endoscopy, abdominal echography, electrocardiogram, blood tests.Prevention is the best treatment! If serious conditions have been dismissed one by one, indigestion should not worry too much. Prevention is the best treatment! As gastric secretion has stopped being considered to be the cause of indigestion, the old approach using anti-acids and anti-secretive products is no longer recommended. Still, there are people that say that this types of drugs help. Activated coal does help, but you mustn't abuse it: it doesn't only absorb gases and bacteria, but also useful digestive enzymes, minerals and vitamins. The supplements with digestive enzymes taken before large meals are welcomed. The second day after the indigestion, one is recommended to follow a diet based on boiled vegetables, lean dairies and fruits, tutsan and lemon tea. < The symptoms can mask other conditions Even if initially it is considered to be indigestion, the symptoms can mask much more serious conditions for which you should address your doctor. Among the alarm signals we can mention: - Persistent or recurring abdominal pain; - Low appetite for a longer periods of time; - Inexplicable weight loss; - Vomiting with blood strings or clean blood; - Dark-colored stools; - Indigestion accompanied by heavy breathing, pain in the back of the sternum, that irradiates up to the base of the neck or to the left arm, cold sweats. All these can be signs of an acute cardiac arrest. Advice to avoid indigestions- You can survive the festive meals following these pieces of advice:- Don't skip breakfast or lunch; - Choose light and dry alcoholic beverages! Consume with moderation. The same advice applies for coffee. - After eating, go for a 15-20-minute walk; - Avoid the siesta on the coach or sleeping; - Chew thoroughly before swallowing; - Take, before eating, pills that contain supplements of digestive enzymes. Homeopathic treatmentHomeopathy has more than one remedy for indigestion; choosing them is done on specific criteria.
