Proteins
The main aliment: the main protein source is meat. In nature, proteins are to be found everywhere, not only in meat but their great majority is in the animal kingdom.
Lack of proteins in the body can lead to:
- Nutrition and growth disorders;
- Diminishes immunity to infections;
- Anemia;
- Edemas (white swollen of the skin);
- Decrease of the physical and psychical activity;
Protein excess can lead to:
- appearance of putrefaction;
- disease (gout);
- appearance of protein intoxication phenomena;
In the digestive canal proteins are transformed, under the influence of different in the elements they are formed of, called amino acids.
Actually they are absorbed in the intestine as amino- acids which contribute directly to development and mending.
Proteins which contain all essential amino acids are called complete proteins, such as the ones present in milk, eggs, lean meat, cheese, etc.
Proteins which don't contain all essential amino acids are called incomplete proteins such as peas, beans, maize, etc.
The caloric value of proteins is the following:
